All-About-My-Truck Week: An Introduction
By Kevin Whipps
Last week we talked about how after five months of trying I finally sold my custom ride, and just before that we talked about shopping for a good tow vehicle. But as of Friday my wife was still jobless, so I changed my mind about dropping $20k on a truck — it just didn’t seem like the right thing to do. Instead I needed to find a less expensive ride, something I’d enjoy and also get some use out of.
Out of the blue I got a call from a buddy of mine who’d seen my old truck — the sold one — driving around town. I mentioned I wanted to buy a truck, and he told me he had one to sell, a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado with every option known to man: power windows, power locks, power mirrors, 3.73 rear gears with posi, 350 ci engine, tow package, and even a decent drop kit. It also came with lots of miles, but after I drove it, I knew it would work out okay. Friday night I drove to his house and picked up my new truck for $4,000.
I’ve only had it a few days now, but I’ve done some little things to it along the way to make it that much cooler to me, and this week I’ll post some about the truck and what I’ve done to it. You’ll get an Alpine stereo review, info about how to remove moldings, and maybe even some suspension tips. It should be a fun week.
