Ride of the Day: 2005 Kia Spectra

Believe it or not, this is a Kia Spectra. Yep, under all the body kits and retina-burning yellow paint beats the heart of a little Korean import. That sends off dangerous overtones if you’re a Japanese automaker — namely, Kia can play too.

A list of the mods includes:

  • Custom Intake
  • Ark Exhaust
  • Custom Springs
  • Custom Strut Bars
  • Rockford Fosgate Subwoofers
  • Custom Sub Enclosure
  • Blaupunkt Head Unit
  • Rockford Fosgate Amplifier
  • Custom Seats Exterior Styling
  • Custom Body Kit

Why We Like It

We’re not saying that Japanese automakers should run scared here, or that Kia is going to take over anytime soon. But looking at this Spectra reminds us that Japanese import tuning started out the same way, when modders figured out their cheap imports would only take a few tweaks to get them looking sweet.  We’d love to see the look on people’s faces when the owner tells onlookers it’s a Kia — it must drop their jaws.

What We’d Change

Not much to complain about, except the lack of go. And we understand the owner is looking for a turbo kit as we speak, so it’ll only continue to get better.
