Drier Is Better: AEM Oil-Free Filters
By Kevin Whipps
The first mod that almost everyone seems to do to their rides nowadays is a cold air filter. At least that’s what the cool kids with their emo bangs are telling me, but then again I also watched the one kid eat a full jar of peanut butter, so what does he know? Anyways, the big problem with old-school filters was the cleaning process. Lots of oil, lots of messiness — it just wasn’t cool. So, to solve that problem, the geniuses at AEM came up with their Dryflow series of filters.
No oil, no mess — just 10 minutes in water to clean it, and you’re kosher like pickles. No, seriously. Pickles are not only good for you, but they’re a kosher meal too.

Amsoil also makes dry filters, I’ve been running one for a while now. I like them a lot better than the oiled filters. One big benefit not mentioned in the post above is that without the oil you don’t have to clean your MAF sensor nearly as much since it’s not getting covered in the oil.
