No More Cold-Car Mornings — For The Wealthy
By Chuck Cage
Our friends over at Gizmodo brought attention this week to an item any Northerner will love: an SMS-activated car heater. The Giz is short on details — as is the manufacturer — but it looks to us as though this device burns a bit of gasoline to provide heat via a manifold-style system.
Giz did post a few specs: 4.2kW of heat for up to 60 minutes — and a whopping $1,700 price tag. I can’t imagine that the install is a breeze, either, as you’d have to plumb it into the car’s HVAC, fuel, and electrical systems.
The real question in my mind: Is this really $1,000+ better than a remote start system — besides the obvious hipness of texting your car KITT style?
