A Million Miles In A 91′ Chevy

Wisconsin, probably best known for cheese and the Packers, now claims another distinction: a million-mile Chevy pickup. In 1996 Frank Oresnik bought the ‘91 Chevy Silverado — which he calls “Old Girl” — from the original owner, an elderly woman who had put 41,000 miles on it. After three years of payments and 300,000 miles, most drivers would label the truck “old.” But rather than shell out more money for a newer truck, he decided to keep the “Old Girl” — and she’s never quit on him.

NPR’s Robert Siegel spoke with Frank Oresnik as he approached one million. Also recognizing the milestone, Chevrolet executives rode with Frank as the odometer turned over — later they may use his story to help promote the brand.
