What Will Prevail, Performance Beasts Or Econo-Cars?
By Calvin Lewis
I’d like to take your attention to the automotive industry and where things might be going in the next decade or two. Simply put, every carmaker is either building fuel-efficient vehicles or will be soon, which could signal the end for today’s fastest quarter-mile machines.
Some machines, like the Corvette, Mustang, and the upcoming Camaro, will surely go on. But will V8s be the primary choice, or will high-horsepower hybrids and electric rides rule the roads in the next ten or twenty years?
As for myself here at Fulloncustom.com, I feel torn between wanting to burn rubber, yet not wanting to mess up the environment anymore than it already is. Although it pains me to say this, performance just might lose out in the end to preserving the planet — by means of alternate engine options for the vast and quickly-increasing number of drivers.

The dichotomy exists in all of us for self preservation and hedonistic exhileration. As a people, both sides will have their corresponding markets indefinitely. For all the green living trends of todays consumer market, there will always be a demand for performance. If engineers can provide performance in a green package, we’ll take it. If they can’t, you know we’ll still take it. The voice of performance enthusiasts simply echo too loudly for suppliers to neglect this ever-present cash cow. Fear not automongers!
