BMW’s Five Millionth 5-Series
By Calvin Lewis
BMW introduced the world to the sports sedan with the ‘84 M5, and the 5-Series has stayed true to its rear-wheel drive heritage ever since, while also being reasonably priced. As the five millionth 5-Series rolled off the assembly line a few days ago, BMW used the occasion to celebrate one of the greatest cars every built.
The 535d version in the photo runs on diesel, unlike the fire-breathing M5 which runs on regular gasoline. Hopefully BMW will keep producing the 5-Series long enough for it to catch up with the Toyota Corolla, currently at the 30 million mark.
