Drop $40K On A Custom GTI
By Calvin Lewis
If you’re feeling flush and craving a truly unique ride, maybe Tein can satisfy your need. They designed and built this 2006 VW Golf V GTI to promote all the sponsors who contributed parts to it. The massively tuned GTI debuted at car shows across the country and showed up in magazines surrounded by beautiful women, and now you can buy it for $40,000.
Twenty-two aftermarket companies contributed parts to the beast. Grab a cup of coffee and a doughnut before you look at the massive list of work done to the vehicle — they fiddled with and improved every aspect of this GTI. For example, they sweetened the outside with a BRS wide body kit, and they obsessively replaced the door, hatch, grill, roof, and rear wing with Seibon’s carbon fiber. To make it lighter, they stripped the chassis of all nonessentials, and they added a six point roll cage for strength.
Those mods are just the tip of the iceberg. It’s rated at 245 whp, with a six-speed manual transmission and 1,000 miles on the clock. So if you’re looking for something new in 2008, forget about the new stock cars and get the GTI that’s custom-built from the engine to the cup-holder.
