More Power, More Torque For The 1.9L TDI

By Calvin Lewis

Blowed up!

Europeans have embraced diesel-powered cars in a big way — which accounts for an average fuel consumption among European cars of 40 mpg.  BD Diesel gives us another reason to love diesel: a  power module that plugs into the ECM (Emissions Control Module)  of  1998-2006 VWs with the 1.9L TDI engine.  The power module increases fuel pressure to add about 20HP and 30 ft-lbs of torque.

The increased fuel pressure adds punch to the injectors and gets you a quicker response from the turbo, for an overall faster feel.  And though BD doesn’t brag about the economical benefits of the upgrade, any modification that allows the engine to breathe easier will probably translate to a lower fuel bill.

Xtremediesel.com sells a module for 1998-2006 1.9L TDIs for $427.  For about the same price, MizzGrizz.com sells a module for 2004-2006 models.
