Car Club Corner: Severed Ties

Here’s another successful custom car and truck club born in Cali that’s expanded ten-fold — way beyond its West coast roots. Read on past the jump to find out who they are, what they drive, and why you should care.

Who They Are

Severed Ties is made up of owners of custom cars and trucks, usually laying the rocker on the ground — but sometimes lifted to the sky. Most members rides sport some form of adjustable suspension — be it airbags or hydraulics — to help them make their way to the ground.

What They Drive

Severed Ties consists mostly of custom cars and trucks in the “mini-truck” style – that is to say that they have big wheels which tuck into the wheel wells, an adjustable suspension to lay them on the ground, and usually — but not always — a bodydrop to get the body on the ground as well. All types of cars and trucks are allowed, from laid out Cadillacs to skied F-250’s – and everything in between.

Where They’re From

The club was founded in two different states simultaneously, California and Arizona, by two men who wanted to “Sever” their “Ties” with a car club they were both in together. The new club grew quickly, and now has chapters in Japan, Australia, Canada, and states all across the U.S.

Why You Should Care

Severed Ties is probably the biggest mini-truck style club in the country right now, and it’s hard to turn around at a car show without seeing the diamond logo on a back window. Members have appeared on TV on shows like Monster Garage and Street Customs, as well as tons and tons of magazine covers. They’re one of the “Big 3″ and really deserve the recognition.
