3M Smooth Transition Tape: Say Goodbye To Tape Lines
By Kevin Whipps
If you’re only repainting part of your project car – as opposed to a total frame-off restoration – you’d usually mask the jams using either a folded edge or a hard tape line. But tape lines in door jambs or on bodylines serve as tell-tale signs that your low-buck re-paint is, well, a low-buck repaint. 3M’s “Smooth Transition” tape lets you mask at will by leaving virtually no tape lines.
The tape itself is kinda funny to look at, but by sticking it down it gives you a folded edge built right in, but it also transitions the tape nicely so that you don’t get a hard line. Really it’s a brilliant idea that no one had though of until now.
