Year One’s Body Shells
By Rick Reimundez
Ever see a mint ‘67 Mustang Fastback or a ’69 Camaro rolling down the street and think, “Man, what I wouldn’t give to find one like that, driven by a little old lady from Pasadena?” Well Year One, that juggernaut of reproduction parts for muscle car restorations has gone you one better: these kits provide the main body shell, which you can bolt to a chassis of your choice — a donor car, or even a full-custom chassis. The body panels from the A-pillar forward are also up to you to source. Lucky for you, Year One carries all of that and then some.
Year One will sell you a full body shell reproduction of the ’67 and ’68 Mustang Fastback and the ’67 and ’69 Camaro in both hardtop and convertible versions. The bodies are reproductions fully licensed by Ford and General Motors respectively, built by Dynacorn Classic Bodies, Inc. and distributed through various retailers.
The bodies from Dynacorn are manufactured using 1006 auto-grade Steel that’s thicker than the original specs. The body shells have been retooled to ensure closer/modern tolerances, and they’ve all been tested with Dynacorn’s replacement panels to ensure that they’ll all fit if you don’t have original body panels. They use modern state of the art welders and jigs to ensure that this car will fit together better than the original.

As these cars have aged, finding a mint one has gotten harder and harder. Even finding a relatively unmolested one is near impossible. If and when you do, expect to pay an arm and a leg – and maybe a kidney — by the time you’re done collecting all the extra parts you’ll need. Year One’s bodies, however, don’t have any rust – and you don’t have to go searching for bondo since there’s not going to be any previous crash damage.
By the time it’s all said and done, you’ll end up saving money since these bodies yield a decent finished product without a ton of time spent fixing and tweaking wrecked and rusted body panels. That said, expect to pay about $15,000 for Year One’s Mustangs, and $12,500 for the Camaros.
Note: Other companies offer similar body reproductions for different models. Namely Tri-Five Chevys from Experi-Metal, Inc. and ‘47-’50, ‘52-’54 Chevy Truck cabs. Prices are along the same lines, but YMMV.

Rick, your Experi-Metal link is pointing to Dynacorn: www.experi-metal.com
I’ve always dreamed of building up a Factory Five Cobra 427 coupe but after watching an episode of Overhaulin’, I fell for a ‘57 ‘Vette. Something about those lines just fit.

They built one of these on MuscleCar on Spike. Awesome idea and nice to know you could have one of your own for so little.
