It’s True: Wider IS Better
By Rick Reimundez
Wheel fitment is one of those aspects of car customization that can be as much art as science. If you’re sticking with OEM wheels, chances are good that you can find something that fits. But what if you want to get something different? That’s when the pros call H&R. If you need to get that tire sitting just right in relation to the fender lip to fit the maxiumum amount of rubber, clear that big brake kit, or correct problems with that aftermarket suspension, H&R’s TRAK+ spacers can help.
But what if you want to go really different — like Porsche wheels on a Mustang, flagship Audi wheels on a compact VW, different offsets, different bolt patterns, and other “impossibilities.” For you, H&R offers TRAK+ adapters.
Both the spacers and adapters are available in various sizes – so many combinations that it’s still a bit of a headache to get things just right. At least you don’t need to also find yourself a fabricator – just someone knowledgeable who can advise you on what sizes you need, etc.
The spacers are available in several series: two series are available from 10mm to 40mm track widening (that’s 5mm to 20mm each spacer). The only difference between these two series is that one uses longer wheel bolts that thread into the factory hub — bolts are sold separately, so you need to know what shape head and bolt length you need – and the other requires you to swap out the factory wheel studs for longer ones. The other two series of spacers are 40mm to 60mm in track widening (20mm to 30mm each spacer). And again, they’re available for wheel bolt or wheel stud applications.

The adapters are a bit different. They range from 20mm to 25mm in thickness and are geared more towards changing a vehicles bolt pattern to fit wheels from a different make or model.
All of the spacers and adapters are hub-centric and fabricated from a proprietary aluminum and magnesium alloy. This alloy makes them 70% lighter than they would be if they were made of steel, and we all know how important it is to reduce un-sprung weight, especially for performance applications. They’re made in Germany and are TUV approved – so you know that this isn’t some hack job.
Street prices vary as much as the sizes configuration possibilities. They’re sold in pairs, so you can tweak and tune the sizes you need from front to back. Expect to pay anywhere from $70 for the smaller sizes up to as much as $200 a pair.
