Ride Of The Day: 2005 Infiniti G35 “Skyline 350GT”

Until they bring the Skyline stateside, you’re going to have to build your own — like this one by Kevin Pierce. Not pleased with the people-will-pay-more-for-it Infiniti US rebadge, Kevin decided to “stick with the car’s roots and how it’s really labeled around the world.”

Ordering his G35 with the 6-speed manual tranny and VQ35DE normally-aspirated 3.5L engine, he set to work building his own JDM ride. Read on past the jump for details.

Mods include:

Appearance:

  • Bat’s head light/tail light GT-R-style overlays
  • Custom GT-R-style grille fabricated from the OEM grille
  • OEM powdercoated 19″ wheels
  • JDM Skyline badges
  • JDM clear corners
  • LED hyper-white clear bulbs

Performance:

  • Toyo proxes 275/35-R19s (rear), 245/35-R19s (front)
  • Tein S-Tech lowering springs
  • Injen cold air intake
  • Topspeed Pro 1 exhaust system

Why We Like It

Everybody likes JDM — whether they admit it or not. And this looks like a pretty clean example. So many people jump on the JDM train and end up derailing along the way, creating something that’s either too gaudy or undriveable. Kevin keeps it clean.

What We’d Change

His slightly-modded 298 HP powerplant is nothing to sneeze at, but we’d love to see some extra grunt to back up that mean exhaust. And speaking of exhaust: we wonder if it drones.
