Feature: Veypor’s Full Data Logging For Your Bike

The Veypor VR2 may look like a tack-on speedometer for your bike — or a glorified stopwatch — but it’s really a complete on-board telemetry system. It can supplement or replaces your factory speedometer, tach, odometer, gear indicator, shift light (even if you didn’t have one before), and fuel gauge. But it also adds killer advanced features such as full-time data logging of speed, distance, lap times, acceleration — it can even extrapolate your horsepower and torque output. Does your existing gauge package allow you to time laps, to measure G-forces, and to determine your drag coefficient or rolling resistance?

Veypor also offers a bunch of optional accessories that up its cool factor even further. For example, they offer a set of external buttons ($75) that replicates the two-button interface from the unit itself in a form factor that you can attach to your hand grip, keeping your hands where they belong. A head-up display (HUD) is also available for $200 that’ll display your speed, rpm, gear info, etc. right at the top edge of your visor.

If you’re at the track often, you can also pick up their infra-red lap timer for $60. It puts your VR2 in triggered mode where a track-side transmitter automatically ticks off each lap as you pass.

And you’re not limited to using the VR2 on just a single bike. Veypor offers extra wiring harnesses for $40 each, so you can move the head unit from bike to bike. The unit itself will individually track data for up to four vehicles. Speaking of vehicles, the VR2 also works with cars — and especially racing karts — and Veypor offers a car kit to simplify installation. The kit includes suction cup mounts and slightly different instructions. And if you’re into bling, Veypor has options for you as well: you can order an aluminum case and billet mount for your VR2 that replaces the standard high density black plastic mount.

You can reprogram the unit and download data via a serial cable or an optional $15 USB cable; Veypor offers their VAS software as a free download to simplify managing all this great functionality.

More good news: Pricing starts a bit north of $300 for the basic VR2 kit and you can buy a more basic slightly de-contented gauge for $280. They also have a number of packages that combine the VR2 with various combinations of options for various applications. You can order everything from Veypor directly, or from any number of vendors nationwide.

Note: If you’re having trouble picturing how the VR2 installs — and how all the functionality fits together — check out Veypor’s somewhat-cheesy yet informative video. It’s a bit long, so if you’re looking for the install part, jump ahead to around the 6 minute 30 second point.
